Power Your Business for Less: Get 20% Off Solar with the New Power NI Grant

Back to all insights

Looking to reduce your business energy bills and become more sustainable? There’s never been a better time to invest in solar power.

Power NI has just launched a new grant scheme under the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP), offering 20% funding towards fully installed solar PV systems for commercial properties. As an approved vendor, Solar Power NI is ready to help you take full advantage.

What’s is the commercial solar grant in NI?

The commercial solar grant covers 20% of the total cost (excluding VAT) of a commercial solar installation — including both the products and installation work. This could be worth up to £30,000 per site (£150,000 project cost), making solar energy more accessible and affordable than ever before for businesses in Northern Ireland.

Who is the grant for?

This funding is specifically for non-domestic premises. If you’re running a business, farm, school, or any commercial property in Northern Ireland, and you’re not tied to a domestic meter, you could be eligible.

💡 Note: Battery storage and export-focused projects aren’t covered — the grant is for self-consumption solar systems only.

How does the commercial solar grant work?

The process is straightforward — but timing is key:

  1. Survey and quotes – Speak to an MCS-accredited installer like Solar Power NI to carry out a site audit and provide a quote. (We recommend getting three for comparison.)
  2. Apply to Power NI – Submit your application using the official Power NI form. Importantly, do not pay a deposit or begin work until you receive your Grant Offer Letter.
  3. Get approval – Once approved, you’ll receive a Grant Offer valid for 3 months.
  4. Installation – After your Grant Offer Letter, we’ll install your system and provide all required documentation.
  5. Claim your grant – Once installed, submit proof of payment and your handover documents — and receive your 20% grant via bank transfer.

We’ll guide you through every step and make the paperwork easy.

Why go solar?

Switching to solar makes sense now more than ever:

  • Save on bills – Generate your own electricity and cut running costs
  • Future-proof your business – Reduce your reliance on rising grid prices
  • Sustainability credentials – Improve your ESG standing and green image
  • Fast ROI – With 20% off upfront, you’ll see returns even quicker
