Benefits of Solar Panels

Back to all insights

Solar power is an unlimited renewable energy source that doesn’t produce CO2 emissions or other gases. It is a carbon reducing means of generating “free” electricity.

What are the advantages of solar panels?

There’s simply never been a better time to embrace solar energy. Here are the biggest solar panel benefits:

1. Save money with lower electricity bills

The more of your own energy you can produce the less you will have to worry about rising energy prices. Many homes manage to reduce their electricity spend by as much as 80% depending on the number of panels installed and the type. Solar panels will still produce energy even during the winter and on cloudy days. They are hail resistant and can actually perform very well in snow as the white colour reflects the sunlight back to the panels!

As we mentioned before, solar energy doesn’t require any outside supply to work, so its maintenance and energy production costs are practically non – existent. The only cost associated with the use of solar energy is the manufacture and installation of the components. This means that despite the large initial investment, there are no additional costs associated with its use, so the installation is recovered quickly.

We have seen amazing results from solar panels installed right across Northern Ireland, with our record of being 99% self sufficient, meaning their energy bill was just £1.80!

2. Low maintenance and long lasting

Once the solar panels are installed there are no more running costs to worry about. It is recommended that your panels are cleaned occasionally to ensure they are getting as much sun as possible. Aside from that and some regular check ups, you don’t need to carry out any other maintenance.

Most solar panels on the market today are also covered by a 20-25 year manufacturer’s warranty so if anything technical was to go wrong, you can rest safe in the knowledge that it will be sorted out free of charge. Solar Power NI, SOLARWATT panels actually come with a 30 year manufacturer’s warranty which covers both the product and the performance – the longest warranty available on any solar panel.

3. Clean, renewable energy

Home solar panels do not release any harmful pollutants or greenhouse gas emissions; like carbon dioxide into the air and water supply. If everyone was to do their bit and have solar panels installed on their homes and businesses, we could reduce billions of pounds saved on environmental and pollution damages along with saving thousands of lives each year.

4. Increase your homes value

Adding solar panels to your home doesn’t just increase it’s value due to using renewable technology but can also increase it’s curb appeal and interest from buyers. With electricity bills on the continuous increase and increasing demands for being more “green”, your home could be snapped up far more quickly when it comes to resale.

5. Charge an electric car with free energy

Are you an owner of an electric car? We have exciting news!  Did you know that solar energy can also power an electric car? This will simultaneously further reduce your carbon emissions and save you money on fuel costs.

As solar panel benefits go, that’s a big one!
