Exciting times on the horizon for Solar Power NI as the company is set to reap the benefits of partner company Solarwatt's recent acquisition by German giant BMW!

On the 23rd of April 2013 our German renewable energy partner Solarwatt invited us, the company's primary Irish partner and installer, to the event launch of their 'Back On Top' project in Dresden, Germany! The huge scale event, covered live throughout Germany, revolved around one hugely important announcement and the exhibiting of Solarwatt's latest in renewable energy products: The Smart Home Energy Manager, Back-Up Batteries, a Car-Port, and most importantly their latest range of panels, the innovative, high performance, uniquely durable, Glass-Glass modules.

While more details regarding these latest innovations from Solarwatt are to come over the next few weeks, for the purpose of this news up-date, we would like to concentrate on sharing the fantastic announcement made at the event, that of billionaire German entrepreneur, and owner of BMW, Stefan Quandt, signalling his intention to conquer the renewable energy industry through theacquisitionof a 94% controlling stake in Solarwatt.

With his investment Quandt has immediately set about the task ambition of; greater product innovation, even higher performance panels and the provision of "The Full Package Service", something which involves longer and stronger performance and product warranties, the use of Solarwatt own brand inverters and own brand mounting kits and the aforementioned, Home Energy Manager. In essence Quandt wants Solarwatt to provide installers and overall clients alike with a full Solarwatt 'Turn-Key' installation, offering all inclusive components for all stages of install and an unrivalled level of after sales service- 'The Full Package'- ensuring German standard quality from start to finish.

The news signals a bright future and flourishing road ahead for Solarwatt who can now rest assured of the financial backing of one of the most successful and visionary leaders of our time, whose expertise along with the shared knowledge of BMW engineers, will certainly see Solarwatt further cement its place as Europe's leading renewable energy manufacturer.

In terms of thecollaborativepotential of this takeover, BMW have already announced a venture taking advantage of Quandt's ownership by launching their latest line of electric vehicles, the' BMW i series', in combination with Solarwatt's revolutionary Car-Port system whereby BMW i owners can charge their cars by utilising the energy generated by a Glass-Glass solar panel covered 'Car Port' garage.

Speaking about this, Marcus Krieg, BMW Director of the 360° ELECTRIC Project, explained, "BMW i steadfastly continues to put its 360° approach towards customer-friendly electromobility into practice. We are glad that with SOLARWATT, wehave a premium partner for custom solar solutions on our side which lives up to our customers’ demanding aesthetic and quality standards”.

This excellent announcement also bodes extremely well for us here at Solar Power NI and our customers as we will now benefit from the highest calibre product developments in the renewable energy market, the latest in product innovation, ideas and the joint collaborative knowledge of Solarwatt and BMW, and thus enabling us to offer our clients an unrivalled installation and overall quality of service.
